does anyone have a clue what this could be?? I've looked it up here online and have checked the fuses and cable and all seems fine. Anymore suggestion?

Thanks vrrJT3, this seems to be my problem. Considering I don't know much do you or anyone know exactly where the fuse is located for the brake light switch?

I assume you have your foot on the brake. Do the brake lights come on when you put the brake on? If the brake switch is bad, it could cause the same problem. The brake switch controls a solenoid that releases the shift lever out of park. If the brake switch is fine, check the solenoid on the shifter.

There is something called a shift tube from your shifter handle to a cable above your steering wheel. This could be broke like my was on my 95 aerostar. If it is your going to need Torx allen wrenches to get at it and Ford has replacements which weren't too expensive believe it or nor($50 for mine).
Does the nandle move and maybe you seen the needle move a little too? If so I'd be its the shift tube. It ain't hard to fix just a pain in the ***. I'd say a mechanic could do it in an hour if he's not ripping you off.
If its not this then its not good. In the transmission.
You could have someone under the thing looking at where the linkage goes into the transmission and someone moving the shift handle. If there is slight movement at transmission then its probably transmission. If not then shift tube

the brake fuse will be located under the hood in the fuse box. get a schematic showing the electrical system to determine which fuse it is on as it may not be on the brake light fuse, but on the ignmition circuit. also, if the fuse is good, you may have a brken link inside the column which wont unlock the column. another thing, if your carpet is bunched up, pull it straight and then try to take it out of park. you have an interlock safety which releases the column which is sometimes not engaged when the carpetting is bunched up under the brake pedsal.

Look into the Fuse Panel. My wife's 93 Tempo blew a fuse, and wouldn't shift either. The problem was the brake interlock, which tells the computer if you have your foot on the pedal, and allows the transmission to shift out of park.

Fix the brake lights first. If you put the key in turn it from lock to off, you may be able to take it out of park.

Is it stuck? Can you move the shifter? If you can move the shifter and nothing happens look at your tranny fluid and see how it is. If your shifter won't move you need to look at the linkage and see if everything is moving the way it should. Wish I knew more I could help you more...
