Without a doubt, your '97 is R134a. In 1993, some of the cars still used the R12, and some started using the R134a. In 1994, when it was a government mandate that all vehicles be using the R134a, R12 was banned from sale to the average consumer. Only licensed automotive technicians were allowed to purchase it, and so it still is today; that is when you can find it.

your 97 will have R134a not R12. In the early 90s they started to switch to 134a. Its better for the environment. If any question look on the sticker under the hood it will tell you.

R134A. But if you want to make sure look at the fill fittings. If they they look like quick connects it is 134a. If it looks a bit like the needle valve on a bicycle tire it is R12

It should be running r134 asno one should e able to get r12 anymore . Car makers were told to switch to r134 in 95 I believe so yours will be on 134

Any car made from 96 and newer has r134a in it
