This all started when I took the positive battery cable off first. The anti theft device started chirping and then, after changing the battery, it would not start. Tried reseting the computer via various instructions in my manual and the internet. Nothing worked. Had to get it towed to garage to reset the computer.
On the way home from picking the Explorer up from garage, I noticed that it would want to quit while at a red light. After a couple of days of this, it stopped doing that but started to idle high. At times it will idle fine but other times it will idle between 1200 and 1500 rpm. I thought for sure that it would be the idle control valve. I replaced it but it didn't do any good. Any ideas?? MAP sensor??
Thanks for any help.

Could be a throttle positioning sensor, or you might have done some damage to the pcm. Not really too much that would cause this... HOPE THIS HELP!!

Something in your ignition box has either been erased or burned out.The main computer is using a high idle to compensate for this.Outright pulling the posi cable may have caused an arch wich cuased this issue.next time pull the neg cable first and this problem wont happen again. You may have to just take it to a service station or you could spend day's trying to find what may be an even smaller problem
