I'm planning on getting a car in the next year for myself. However do you think its be better to get a new cheap car such as Hyundai Accent or a 2001 Jaguar "S" in prestine condition? Cars come out to the same price in the end.

I need cost effective and afforable transportation for a family of three. I am not opposed to buying from an owner and I want something that will help with rising gas prices and be fun to drive around town. I have only one kid so I don't need a hugh vehicle. What is a great buy and where for me...do I go for a foreign or USA car?

I'm a data hound. Eventually, I will buy a car, and I know it'll be a 4-cylinder. I'd *LOVE* to somehow generate a list of all 4-cylinder models for the 20 or so most popular makes on the market (Honda: Civic, etc...). That way, I can develop a method and start comparing apples to apples. Any suggestions?

I was adivsed by an auto dealer that if I sell it - it does not need a smog certificate. Is this true? If not, who has to smog it? It is 1973 Chevrolet El Camino.

I know this sounds lame, but I just totaled my car and I have to buy a new one. I don't even know the first thing about buying a used car off a lot. I don't want a brand new one (99.9% of the time, brand new cars depreciate 20% the second they're driven off the lot) so how would I go about doing so?
