I am a frequent flyer from KMCN to KATL via Comair and ASA; the usual equipment is a CRJ, either the -200 or -700 variant. On the northbound flight (usually AM), the flight is typically very quiet - conversation is easy at a normal tone of voice. On the southbound flight, however (usually PM), once the plane exits the departure pattern, there's a very definite - and very LOUD - flow noise that starts up and stays with us until the pilots throttle back and extend flaps for approach. The noise is so loud as to inhibit conversation anywhere on the craft. These flights are short - 10-15 minutes, and if I had to guess, I'd say they operate in the neighborhood of FL90. I haven't been able to correlate presence or absence of the noise with variant type, operator, age, or any factor other than northbound vs. southbound. Any ideas? Thanks!

... during the trip to USA, still in brazilian skies, the Legacy jet was flying at 37,000 feet high when the rules of traffic determine it should be at 36,000 feet or 38,000 feet of altitude.
This jet crashed with an Boeing airliner (GOL Airlines) and 154 people died. What do you think about that ?

Hello! I'm talking about those straight trails of cloud/smoke that we often see throughout the day.
My mother told me that they are metereology planes but I can't find any pictures or information about them.
Could anyone give me more information about them? :)

A website with pictures would be great!! :) Thank you.

I had a mini practical exam today, where I had to explain the control system of a PT-6. I nailed it, except for the beta valve. On this prop governor there was no beta valve, instead the feedback ring was linked to the top of the pilot valve. It has me fairly confused, because the feedback ring pulling up on the pilot valve would increase pitch, right? If the prop INCREASES pitch, how can you enter reverse pitch?
Any way, my teacher didnt clearify things and this question is eating at me. I hope someone out there knows what Im talking about.

I dropped out of 2 1/2 years at Baylor university where i was pursuing a business degree, While i love business..and got calculus/economics all of the hard material out of the way...i looked at the lifestyle, and to me working a desk job for ten years before i could open my own business/ideas etc wasn't a stress i was looking forward to.

I've done some thinking about life and just want a change, and to me flying...allows you to also pursue business/stocks etc so i'm not going to throw out my dreams etheir. Point being with no money, And wanting to avoid the military at least right now, anyone know of any reputable flight schools in florida, or anywhere?

Thanks alot

When propeller airplanes ( not turbo jets) for example old DC 4's and DC 6's fly above 10,000 ft where does the oxygen come from for the crew and passangers. Or perhaps they did not fly that high. In that case did WW2 bombers carry compressed O2 for the crews.
