Hi,
I moved from one state to another state in March. However my employer did not make a change of address and deducted state tax as per first state. As second state does not have any state tax, is there a way I can get the money refunded for this tax which was calculated for wrong state?

Will appreciate your response.

Thanks

Soo, I just used TurboTax for the very first time.(I use to have my father just do it for me because he's good with that stuff, but i figured I'd do it on my own this year)

I finished up and Efiled. I got an email the next day talking about how the IRS rejected my return.
The rejection was due because someone has filed me as their dependant, whether that be my mother or father.

Now.. I'm going to make up ###'s.. but, anyway.. I was going to get back 1400.

After I got the rejection email, I went back to turbo tax and edited out what they wanted me to edit out. There was an option for, "If you know you could be claimed as a dependant, check this".. Which I did because I am assuming this is what the problem is.. My return went from 1400 to 500. Why?

What the..?

Soo, I filed the normal way with the option unchecked to see what would happened because I want that money.
What should I do about this?

Thanks in advance..

Dominick

do i pay at the end of the year or when I sell it? I heard that if you make money in the market and didnt pay taxes on it by the end of the year the IRS will charge you interest and you would get penalized. Is that true?

Does my old employer have a copy of my W-2? What do you think of people that ask for another W-2 this late? Is it possible to even get one that fast? Also is it a hassle to make another W-2. BTW I already did my taxes and left them in my house to file (which I never did) I was looking for them last night to file them and I can't find them anywhere and I am embarrested to ask my former employee over summer. I just turned eighteen years old and I made less then $4000 dollars.

Hi, my father passed away in november 2006. Do I have to declare his 2006 taxes? He was single, retired with pension and had no dependents. He lived by himself. None of his children receives any money from pension or other income. Are there any penalties to us his children for not doing it? Thanks so much.

I didn't file my federal income taxes last year and I owed about $300. This year, I plan on filing (it's not too late!) and this time Uncle Sam owes me over $400. Can I just file both at the same time and hope they send me the difference as a refund, minus the penalties? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If I drive from home to my office, then from the office to a client and then home, is the mileage from the office to the client, and the mileage from the client to home deductable. Assuming of course that I have kept a log. I know the mileage from home to the office is considered commuting.

My wife did some on and off babysitting for a local mother. Total income might be around $800 - $1000, but I am not sure and the lady didn't do any type of W2. Now the lady wants to write off money paid for babysitting, but I didn't include it in my return.

I have not received my W2 forms yet. How can I file for a tax extension without these? The problem i'm facing is that they require an estimate for the taxes I owe and I have no clue as to what the estimate would be. I can't even give a rough figure. Also, I have worked in two different states - Colorado and Georgia , would just one extension form(4868) be enough for both?

Initially I was under the impression that since I was no longer covered by an employer plan I could take the full deduction, regardless of AGI.
Publication 590 has this exception that steered me in this direction: "If you receive retirement benefits from a previous employer’s plan, you are not covered by that plan."
The way I read this, that means I was not covered during the year in question and therefore able to make the deduction.
Am I misreading this?

If husband and wife both have a 1099 misc to file and we are using turbo tax whats the accurate way to file.Because when we did it jointly and we do the audit check it says...you told us that 1099 from company name was sent to your husband but you linked the income to a schedule c owned by wife's name. What are we doing wrong or is this okay. Not sure where to go from here. Any advice will help.
Also how do we know if we have to file state tax? Does this have to do with selling anything .If so we do not sell anything. Thanks for all and any answers. As time is coming to an end.

I know that I have to have the 7.5% of my income to qualify, etc. but I was just wondering if it has to be itemize to take them off. I know nothing about taxes, just asking for the person that is doing my taxes.

I e-filed my NC state return then I discovered a mistake when I printed out a hard copy...I accidentally put down the state income tax withheld from my paycheck as "other federal taxable income deductions," according to my state return. So the "state income tax withheld" block is left blank. I want to correct this. Does it mean I have to amend both my federal and state returns?

My father in law says that if the GI Bill money received was used for living expenses instead of tuition, one can still claim the lifetime learning credit on their taxes? Is this true? Military.com says living expenses are a legal use of the funds. Thanks for the help.
