My father-in-law put all of his children's names on the home he built in Greece before he died in 1979. Some family members still reside in the house. Are there any annual U.S. reporting requirements for my husband's portion of the ownership of the property? Is the property considered to be a Foreign Trust?
Thanks for any information.

I am using taxcut.com and doin' it myself (again...zzz) and for the past few years I've owed a lot more state tax than federal -- this year Illinois wants four times as much as federal! Am I doing something wrong here? This doesn't seem to add up. Any words of wisdom appreciated :)

I have a friend that has parents that have over 4 million dollars in their estate, they need to know how to protect it from the IRS getting most of it. The domicile is in Arizona and also need to know which state law will preside over the estate.

I'm a college student (and accustomed to filing 1040EZs), but this year I made $1,000 in nonemployee compensation (box 7 of 1099-MISC) just from bookkeeping a few hours a month for a small non-profit that didn't want to put me on their payroll.

Can I put this on line 21 of the 1040 (other income) or am I totally screwed and have to do all the Schedule C and SE crap?

As a server, does the law require that you declare 100% of your tip income? My employer has said to claim 10% of my sales (almost 100%) and I am just curious what the law is. I am not concerned with fudging, I just want to know if employer's have a say, or choose a standard, and what the IRS says.

I was planning on filing a 1040EZ, but I can't find a place to claim my "Nonemployee compensation" from box 7 of a 1099-MISC. I don't have a sole-prioprietorship by any means, I'm just a part-time bookkeeper that a tiny non-profit company didn't want to put on their payroll for some reason. What should I do?

Oh man, stupid question resulting from a stupid mistake, which all gets stupider the more I think about it.

I e-filed my state return and was pondering my refund amount. It seemed like too much. So then I realized I might've messed something up. I moved WITHIN state in May 2006. So when I was filling out the state return, it asked my school district and I put in my current school district and I marked that I was a PART-YEAR resident of the district, which is true.

But now looking at the regular mail-in form (not e-file) I realize they wanted to know my STATE residency, not school district, which would have been the full year.

So I filled out an amended return, thinking it would reduce my refund amount because maybe the e-file program gave me a credit for my (erroneous) part-year residency.

But I don't think I got any credit, because the difference between original and amended returns is $0. I still get my original refund, right? "$0" isn't my new tax due/refund amount?

Sold a community house with a profit of $75k, then divorced immediately. I took no $ from the sale at all. Do I have to claim this as "my" income for 2006 tax return? Ex has claimed all income as her own.

Help my mom is married to a man that always tries to get her to pay the bill. He sold stocks and owes the $18,000 estimated and maybe more. She is told if she files jointly with him he will only owe $8,000. She has suffered enough debt from this man and I told her to see a tax attorney. Her signing jointly is like cosigning for a loan and he is not responsible enough to trust to pay it himself. What are my mom's options. She would get back $44 if files seperate. Legal or knowledgable replys only

A friend that used to be an accountant told us several years ago we needed to file 2 mostly identical 1040s, one in Her name with me as the spouse, and 1 in my name with her as the spouse. All the numbers would be the same, just the names reversed. Do I still need to do that?

I made about $25,000 dollars last year and I decided to let another relative claim my dependent on her tax return. However, I claimed my dependent on my W-4 and was collecting that in my net income. How much will I owe the IRS since I'll be filing single no dependents?

I am filling in for a month or so doing medical transcription - I don't think I will make more than $400 a month but do not know if I will be needed thru the whole summer - so I could make anywhere from $400 to $2400. What is the most I can make without claiming the income? Do I have to claim this money on my taxes no matter what? Do I need to get a 1099 from the Drs I am typing for? or from the woman I am typing for since I am kinda subcontracting off of her?
