But I saw an example in the IRS booklet " say your son becomes 19 on dec 10.unless he is a full time student or totally disabled he cannot be claimed as a dependent"(since 19 and 24 yrs is a criteria ). According to this eg. Eventhough I am 24 but being a full time student qualifies me..??

Nope. Since you're 24 as of the end of 2006, they can't claim you as a dependent if your gross income was over $3300, and it was WAY over that. It doesn't matter what they paid toward your support, or where you lived.

You can take the education credit for your tuition, even if they actually paid the bill, but they can't since you aren't their dependent.

you were 24 by the end of the tax year, the answer is no, unless you are permanently disabled.

being a full time college student qualified you between the ages of 18 and 24.

You have to be 24 on Dec 31, 2006 for your parents to claim you as a dependent or any age if you are permanently and totally disabled. You can claim yourself though. Support no longer makes a difference once you get past 24.

The answer is no, not only because you weren't under 24 at the end of the year, but because they also have to provide more than half your support during the year.
