See http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf?portlet=3 for information on getting an extension. This only gives an extension to file, not to pay.

If you are reffering to Income Taxes, call the IRS and request and extension form. You can also get it online at www.irs.gov

If you are talking property taxes...well, it depends on where you live!

For a 6-month extension of time to file, you must file Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Income Tax Return .

Please be aware that an extension of time to file your return does not grant you any extension of time to pay your tax liability.
