When filing Federal Income Taxes, do you round to the nearest dollar, or do you use exact numbers, cents included? My state tax book is telling me when i file state taxes to round. But i've searched the entire IRS handbook for federal taxes and have found nothing. Anyone have any idea?

I have been told that I may "charge rent" to a non profit organization if I hold ameeting in my home and that the "rent" need not be reported as income for tax purposes. In turn, if I "donate" the "rent" to the non profit I may take a tax deduction.

It seems unfair to pay tax on something that is a basic need for living. Should not it be a deduction from the income? At the very least for that part of the paid rent that is equal to a minimum rent for that area for a family or individual?

Im preparing my best friends taxes online using Turbo Tax and I ran into some news. I was wondering if you could tell me if she qualifies for EIC...She is 20, Single, (non HOH), and has 1 dependant (son 2 yrs old), from entering all of her W-2s she had a combined income of about 19000 including some unemployment, but she didnt pay much into her withholdings, therefore I thought she would owe some but by claiming her son as a dependant she was given the Std $1000 deduction, thus she was given a refund of 549. Later in the questionaire EIC came into play and using the simple tool provided she qualifies and her sone qualifies...Is this true...the software gave me some numbers and it looked like a refund of $2120. Does this sound about right? Is it the 549 or 2120? What special papers are needed for her to used the EIC (if needed).

this past year I worked for a guy doing cleaning work. He paid me for each day with a check from his buisness checking account, given usually at the end of the week. He told me I would have to claim my earnings at tax time. this total amount is $2000. Now I never filled out any w4s or any forms from him
so no taxes were taken out. He has now sent me a w2 stlyed form with this amount in the (wages, tips, ect). box, his name, buis. name, EIN #, ect. all in the correct spots but none of the other boxes filled in, obviously because nothing was taken out. I know this is not to be put on a w2 form even though it is printed on one, and assume he just printed it out this way because it was an easy template on his computer. but this gives me no indication of what form it should be on. Is this amount to be put on a 1099? if so which one, I know there are a few?

Hey, can any home owner/Realtor/Lender give me an idea of what real estate annual taxes are in McKinney, TX and Austin areas? I know they vary from county to county, but from what I've seen on line it seems to be $3000 per every $100k, which sounds really high. Then I'm seeing a lower figure on other info sites. I'm just trying to get an accurate number here for those two areas. Thanks..

My roomate has court papers that says she claims 1 child and the father claims the other. Both of the children live with their father. His dad claimed both kids last year and this year (because the dead-beat dad has not job) completely ignoring the court papers. So do the court papers over-rule the IRS? I'm confused.
