I am trying to figure out what makes better sense. I claim 1 dependent, myself, and wonder if I should claim two as head of household, martgage or something else. I enjoy getting a return but don't want to give the government extra money by having so much taken out of my check. I certainly don't want to owe. I file long and include mortgage, property tax, donation etc. I usually get about 1,600. back from Fed. and 700. back from State.

Here's the opproximate figures:

Gross per month: 4,032.
Fed: 716.
State: 322.
OASDA: 280.
Medicare: 65.
Empl. Deductions: 82.
Take home about: 2,650.

Thanks for your time.

I am a US citizen living in Canada, married to a Canadian, and not working outside the home. I have interest and dividends from my US investments but am not sure what filing status to use when I file my taxes. I cannot file single, he is not a US citizen and we do not live in US so I can't file jointly, and if I file separately, it asks for spouse's name and SSN also - and he has no SSN. He claims me on his Canadian tax form. Any suggestions on this?

I'm a full time secretary in a building that has other businesses in it. Well, my day wasn't always completely full so I did some secretarial services for other businesses in the building. Well, I never thought about them giving me a 1099 because I really didn't do that much work for either of them. I did about $600 of work for one company about 4 or $500 for the other in a years time. Now both companies I did work for are giving me a 1099. Do you always have to file it? I mean like if its under a certain amount of money or something. I was counting on my tax return but now am I going to have to pay a lot? I don't know anything about this stuff...........?help?

I am paying child support for my daughter and I paid for her daycare costs, which totalled $2,680. Can I claim that as a tax deduction even though I'm not claiming her as a dependent?

I sold a house in 2005 and claim the house selling exemption for my capitol gains and that time I was single. I got married in 2006 and before I got married my spouse sold her house and made a profit on it. We are now filing a joint return. Can we claim the capitol gains exemption since she was single at the time of the sell and meets all the requirements?

I am being audited for claiming my nephew as a dependent on my Federal 2004 returns. He DID live with me the ENTIRE YEAR of 2004 and I DID care for him as my own child.

I believe that his father, who provides him no support or shelter, tried to claim him as a dependent also.

They are requesting my nephews birth certificate, school records, my utility bill, and my lease (to prove that he lived with me).

Does anyone know why am I being audited?

Should my husband and I wait until we sell our investment property, purchased in 2006, before deducting our expenses? We're not sure if we should file those expenses on our personal income tax forms now or on our business tax forms when we sell it. My husband has his own home improvement business and has personally done all the work on our investment property which we bought to "flip".

Thank You,

MR

I had a job at the beginning of the year for a brief amount of time before the business more or less folded. I have not yet recieved a W2 (I know I have some time left), and I'm worried I may not get one. However, I really didn't make that much money at this job, and I remember reading somewhere that if you make less than a certain amount, you don't have to report it on your taxes. Is that true? If so, what is that amount?

ok here is the scenario:

My gross pay per year is $70,000. After taxes I receive only $2000 every bi-weekly. So gov is chewing off about $695 every bi-weekly from my paycheck.

(1) I am single
(2) I don't own house
(3) Fed allowance I claim is 1

I am sad and crying, please help!!!!!!!! How would I save money? Will I get money back at the end of the year?
