Why do you all just sit back and take it, I am talking about the item on the BBC1 news this evening about rubbish collections only being fortnightly, but I doubt the council taxes will go down. I live in Spain, I have just paid the equivalent of the council tax for the year, a total of 80€ or so, and we get a rubbish collection DAILY...why do you all just moan but not do anything like protest?

I'm Int Stu and wants to give a laptop for my bro on my way back during Easter holidays. What I know is Int Stu must remain outside of EU at least 12 months to qualify to claim VAT. But I'll be back after Easter holidays. Is there can be a problem on my way back to UK. Cause claiming back can save a lot at least 100 quids.

I am about to purchase a smallholding in Wales. It consists of the main farmhouse with an attached but totally independent annex. Total asking price is £365k. To reduce Stamp Duty would it be viable to split the purchase price i.e £150k for the annex and
£215k for the farmhouse. Would this arrangement be legal from a tax point of view ; and/or incur substantial legal/ land registry difficulties. The vendor is willing to negotiate if within the law.

I received notice of winning 1,500,000 in the UK National Lottery. It is from a . I am to claim my prize by responding to : claims_agent_ukoffice@yahoo.com.hk. I know this is unlikely, but since a response is to be made over your E-Mail service, I thought you might want to know of any fraudulent activity is being carried out on your service. It seems I read something about companies wanting Bank Numbers, etc. to claim prizes and using them under false pretence.

I always had doubts, because i never received a payslip, but today 2 bailiffs from HM Rev & Customs came saying that there is outstanding PAYE debt to be paid within 5 days... I cannot believe they did not pay my taxes for all this time... Do you think there is another possible explanation for it before I start talking?

The company is registered and trades in the UK but I might be moving to Canada soon. Most of the work I do is via email and I've been told that this can continue if I move but would I then need a work permit for Canada? And would I be taxed in Canada or the UK (or, the worst-case scenario!) both? Any help appreciated....

Soon the working class people of the UK will no longer be able to afford to live in a house. I work full-time, pay £500 rent a month for a tiny flat as i cannot get a mortgage for anywhere decent, pay £150 council tax a month which leaves me with under £100 to live on a month. Things are going to get worse now there's yet another increase in council tax. The UK government have got things so wrong. Soon we'll all be living out in the street with nothing and sleeping rough. What next? Go to work and recieve no pay? Does anyone else feel completely ripped off and angry???

I would like to know from other fellow self-employed colleagues what figures they provide for their working tax credits.
Do you give the amount you have earnt all year BEFORE deductions e.g. £8500
OR do you give the amount you have been taxed on which is your business income minus business expenditure (and which is a lower figure). I think it should be the 2nd. The helpline just say they will accept whatever figures I give them. If it is the 2nd I would need my figures recalculating that have given them in the apst over the years, but if it is going to be detrimental to me then I would rather leave it. I also hate having to give estimates on next year -who can see into the future?! Thanks

For Up to £33,300k p.a, it's 22%, then it goes up to 40%.

Are you therefore worse off earning £33,400 than if you were earning £33,299?

How does it affect other things like Pension etc?
