When my friend from Scotland visited, I proudly showed him and his lady my coin collection. I could count out the old money in pounds, shilling and pence with no trouble but he could not. They then had an argument over which king came before which.
In fact, in the heat of the argument, their accents became so thick that even they couldn't understand one another.
It's very easy to see the effects of inflation with old, old money. If you look at a penny that's about 250 years old, it's about as twice as thick as as modern one, pre 1970.
If the old money came back, I bet you wouldn't need to carry around a pound of pounds to buy a pound of groceries.
In for a penny and out for a pound or is it the other way around? Anyway, it's all pounds, shillings and pence to me.
Incidentally, the lady from Scotland gave me a few coins she had in her purse from the UK to add to my collection. She gave me the smaller denominations and while showed me the one pound coin, decided to keep that one. And they say the Scotch are frugal.

No; I grew up with £SD and I've spent the last 30 years getting used to decimalisation. I certain don't want to spend the next thirty going backward. Do you plan to reintroduce guineas and groats?

Sounds to complex to me and I don't think our friends in Europe would let it fly.
