My sister is working for a doctor p/t and earning approx. £1400 per month. He does not pay tax or N.I. contributions and says she should register as self employed. She hasn't done this as she cannot see how the inland revenue will find out. Is she right or is she taking a huge risk??
P.S. She says that the revenue are overstretched and would only find out if someone tipped them off. Again is this correct?
Thanks for any help - Worrier

As smokers we know that tobacco is bad for our health! But we are the ones that are penalized for it! We are the ones that have to pay more for our health insurance and high taxes on tobacco! Instead of more taxes on cigarettes and tobacco why not put taxes on grocery items or raise the alchohol taxes! It not fair to target 1 group! Grocery tax would target everybody and it would be a more fair approach! I live in Indiana where they just put a state wide ban on smoking in businesses and places of employment! They had already spent money on airtight rooms with separate ventilation units and sealed doors! Smokers have been persecuted for a long time! I think that smokers should be able to claim some kind of tax deduction for the extremely high tax rate on tobacco! I WOULD ONLY LIKE SMOKERS TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION! THANK YOU

I moved from Jackson Hole, Wyoming to Portland, Or--why, I am still asking myself, but anyway, I worked here for about three months in Oregon and i need to file a state tax. In Wyoming there is no state tax so I am ok there, I am just confused about how I am supposed to do my Oregon one. I got the part year form from the library but I am very confused on how to do it!

I trade shares, but I am not sure about Liability. I am aware of the CGT allowance, but what's the 30days rule and what about shares being traded on same day. Can sell just before 5th April to realize my profit then buy back on 6th? for me, this lock legal and legitimate, because I should be taxed on the profit at the point on the 5th? please help...

Have you noticed that when you speak to representatives for the Inland Revenue on their advice lines they can act like they got their heads up their own asses? They are so arrogant because they think they are above you in terms of what they have been trained to know at the IR.

Please note I'm not Gordon Brown... I just think we should give lower income people significantly more financial freedom, perhaps balancing out lost tax revenues with an increase on VAT to 20% or other suggestions welcome.
