I am completing my first years corp. tax return. After my earnings of £30k I made £12800 profit so I paid myself a dividend of £11k.
Is my CT based on £12800 or £1800 and would I have been better off to have taken the £11000 as a salary rather than a dividend.

With the ban on public smoking, and the news that it's hit the pubs in scotland and ireland hard, we can expect the UK in it's entirety to see an overall downturn in smoking and drinking.

Now,much as I like the thought of a smoke free nation (except at wedding when a Cigar's not optional!) does this mean there's gonna be a huge chunk of tax missing?

Is the government gonna find this missing tax by screwing it out of us tax payers in other means?

My father worked all his days paying taxes ( like most peoples fathers ) When he passed away my mother was left a small part of his pension about £20 a month, now the inland revenue have been on to her saying she will have to pay tax on it.
I am not looking for sympathy here , i would just like to know how our society can treat pensioners like this.
I think we should look at the way other european countries ( like Germany ) treat their pensioners and we should follow suit.

Hi, i have just set up a construction Ltd company and am confused with the 'new CIS scheme'. If workers, who are already holders of CIS 4 cards (obtained long ago) come to my company, why do i have to phone the HMCE to get them 'verified'? These guys would have been working self employed for years losing 18% tax, now it appears that the revenue decide if they should be stopped 20% (verified) or 30% (non-verified). I believe this may also be to do with the fact that some of these guys have been working for the same construction companies for years and therefore shouldnt really be classed as self-employed but should in fact be employees of that company??? Sorry, hope i havent confused you all, but i am, and to be honest i want to make sure i get it right, any help please???

For the future test for VAT registration, where you expect taxable supplies to exceed £61,000 in the next month,

does that mean taxable supplies for the whole year up to that point,
or just supplies in that one month?

Hi,

Been reading a lot of the "reclaiming bank charge" answers. But jus wondering if its possible for myself to reclaim changes over the last 6 years even though Barclays bank have closed down my account due to it being in Overdraft of nearly £1500 Unauthorised.??? And I also owe them about £2000 on a Barclays credit card, which has also gone to finance company for a monthly installment plan!!

Would it still be worth trying to claim back the charges from my unauthorised overdraft, which in the first place wsa caused by failed direct debits and bounced cheques considering the account is now closed?

Say I have stock at cost worth £10,000.00, some of the stock could be older than three months so I would have claimed VAT back on these items. I then sell my business does the new buyer pay VAT on top of the £10,000.00????

My wife and I purchased a house in 2003 whilst working as a housemaster (and wife) in a boarding school. It has been necessary to live in school accomodation in order to discharge our duties, and therefore we rented out our house. It has gained about £50,000 in value over the past few years, and although we have never lived in the house we would now like to sell it. I believe that there are special dispensations relating to capital gains tax if you have to live in accomodation in order to do your job(i.e. a vicar for example) and therefore are unable to live in your own house. Under these circumstances the property is treated as your principle residence. Is this true? and,
1. Does this apply to Housemasters?
2.Are we able to claim the house as our principle private residence even if we have not lived in it?
3. If not then how long would I have to live in it to avoid paying capital gains tax?
Any insights into yhis problem would be very gratefully received. Thank you.
