I am guessing your question means if you file bankruptcy can you get out of paying the IRS. If this is correct you may not have to pay them but there are priorities for who gets paid first. Government entities are the second to the bottom. So if there is not enough money to make it to them then you don't have to pay, but otherwise you will still have to pay.

You list your question under UK but talk about the IRS, which sounds like maybe you're really in the USA.

In the US, no, bankrupcy doesn't cancel out IRS debts.
