My brother has got full time job(40 hours per week). He`s got an offer to take a part time job as an extra, what would be £500 monthly for him.
Does anybody know if his full time job will affect his part time, when they will tax it?I know they don`t take much tax from £500 (monthly),but will they take more tax from it ,if he will have another £1500 from another job?I mean when they tax your money do they put all your income together from different jobs ,or they just tax it all seperately?

Is it worth for him to do a part time job as an extra or he just should do overtime?

Do any of you good folk know what you do when you are about to start work but as soon as you do, income support gets stopped. I wont have anything to live on for about a month (apart from DLA which isn't enough) and will have to wait (I imagine) for tax credits to sort out and housing benefit too. I still have to pay my rent too. Any ideas? Been trying to get through to tax credits department, but no answer. I also won't have any evidence to give inland revenue till I get my first payslip with my hours and pay, etc.

She has been told by her solicitor that she will be liable to pay 3% of £290,000 combined valuation of both properties and that I will be liable to pay up to £3000 even though the property I am buying is valued at £120,000 she has been told it is because we are related and it is regarded as an exchange of property even though we are both buying and selling .

Please explain how capital gains tax works in UK

Let's use an example for clarity.
Say you buy 100 shares of XYZ stock at £10 for £1000.
Six month later you buy another 50 shares of XYZ at £15, or £750 for this trade.
Another six month later you sell 75 shares of XYZ at £20 and receive £1500 for this trade. After this you still have 75 shares left.

Ignoring commissions, how much capital gain/profit do you report on that sale of 50 shares?
How much tax might you pay on that sale if you're already at the maximum tax bracket in your particular location?

Thanks in advance. I actually live in Canada so please excuse me if the example seems weird.

Someone I know has rented their flat for a small amount of time (under yr) to a student therefore can claim back the council Tax. However if they try to claim the money back they inform the Local Govt that their property has been rented. Therefore news might get back to the Tax man thus would they have to pay income tax on the rent income? The rent income only covered the mortgage so no money (profit) was made but are they still taxable? If so would it be best not to claim back the council tax so no one knows the flat's been rented.
