Write down what the odometer (the mileage counter) says when you're parked at your house. Drive to her house. Subtract the number of the odometer when it was at your house from the number when you reach her house. That's how many miles you've gone.

Just ask a colleage about the estimated milage to and from then multiply that to a given mileage rate. In our work we used $0.30 per mile.

Drive it, and see on your odometer how far it is. IRS rate for 2006 was 44.5 cents a mile; for 2007, 48.5 cents a mile. Multiple miles by mileage rate.
