The company is registered and trades in the UK but I might be moving to Canada soon. Most of the work I do is via email and I've been told that this can continue if I move but would I then need a work permit for Canada? And would I be taxed in Canada or the UK (or, the worst-case scenario!) both? Any help appreciated....

If you leave the UK permanently, you will become resident in Canada for tax purposes and not therefore liable to UK tax. Your UK employer would need to write to their tax office advising them of your situation and asking for permission to operate a no tax code for you.
I would imagine you would be taxable in Canada, but you would need to ask this question in Canada tax section....as well as the question about a work permit.
