It's not advisable to send cash through the post. A much better way is through Western Union, but you do have to pay for this service.

The post office advises people never to send cash in the post. People do, though. Its not against the law to stick cash inside a birthday card or anything, it's just that the Post Office won't be held liable if it goes missing - hence cash is sent at the senders own risk. Even sending a letter by registered or recorded delivery (with a signature on delivery) does not insure you against cash going missing.
Such things are extremely rare though. Only packages and parcels with a customs declaration form are opened by the customs people at Mount (un)Pleasant in London, and even then only a very small percentage of the parcels and letters that come through every day are opened for inspection. Letters are fine. They usually only target obvious things like dodgy "adult" themed videos, DVDs, books and magazines. I've had a few of them seized in my time, but quite a few got through as well. It's a bit of a lottery. But yes, a letter should be fine.

Yes there are no restrictions about sending cash!! But it is not safe to so!! If the mail "goes missing" you will not covered by insurance. Basically sending cash through the post is sent at your own risk!!

Just enclose it in an ordinary envelope, with your letter or card and post it off, a buff (brown) envelope is probabl;y better looks like a bill, and in my experience will get to where it's going! just do it!
