I have always filed jointly. Our children are grown.
We are separated since October, 2007; he lives elsewhere. I don't think he plans to file taxes, he worked for him self and will get a 1099 and unemployment statement.

I worked half a year and unemployment for half a year. The home is in my name and so is the mortgage.

I plan to file soon, but Taxslayer online says that if we lived together during 2006 we have to file together??

As I said, he probably won't be filing at all, he's anti government.

I have no money for lawyers, tax consultants, etc. I just paid 4 months of mortgages to get out of foreclosure, and other bills that he created just to get everything in my name.

Any sugestions?

My soon to be X and I have been living in our own homes since June 1, 2006. We have chose to file our own taxes. Married filing seperate. I want to know if I should file prior to our divorce being final on March 26, 2007 or wait and file after our final divorce court hearing. At this point I believe I owe like 1000.00 (guess something to do with part time jobs, I only made 28,000) and he has told me yet but he will get a refund (he made 32,000). Im confused, I can't afford to go thru H & R block or other companies so like in years past I filed on Turbo Tax and Wi IRS pages for free. I also live in Madison, WI and we have no children if this helps. We also claimed 0 and married. Can I every claim my mom even if she's getting social secuirty widows penision, she makes about 11,000 a year. Hope anyone can help me. I really don't want to talk to the x if I have to. Also when can I change my W2 stating Single and 0.

My sister has been working at her job for a year now and she just turned 18 but she technically spent the majority of the time at her job as a minor. She filed as "one" and she is still in high school. Will any of this matter come tax time?

Will she get back everything that was taxed or will she pay?

For any of you that have had this problem this is what I have found out. My refund status said directed deposited on 1/26 to contact bank if it wasnt there. I did so no prob. Called IRS which said no holds should have my money anytime. Checked status again said delayed and ref #1121 to contact IRS. called IRS again said they didnt know why but my refund was stopped and being reviewed along with 70,000 others- wouldnt get refund until at least 2/16. I have come to find out that this was due to a delay in congress in putting some tax cuts back on the books. There are 3 mentioned - I have tax deductions for education expenses - this was listed. Recieved a letter from my university today giving these suggestions: The IRS will not process returns that claim the tuition deductions until after FEB 3rd, 2007 wait until after that date if you are planning on taking the deductions and havent filed. Paper returns will be held and electronic returns filed prior to that will be rejected...

My friend opened a business in her name for her father. He buys and resells used automobiles. She was asking me if she had to file anything special. I think she said he did cash deals only, and I wasn't sure how that would be categorized.

How can I help her sort through this?

i thought that i had a "job" being "hired" by a lawyer. the other lawyers (not part of the firm but renting space in the office) were paying my "employer" for hrs of the wk I did work for them regardless of whether on not i did work those hrs for them. they need to be able to "expense" the cost. i think that i was an "employee" vs a "contract" however regardless of my tax situation (which does not look good) i want the other 2 lawyers to be able to decuct their costs

OK in a nutshell, me and my hubby owe $400 on taxes. We tried filing a couple different ways(single, joint, ect) and we still owe no matter what. We cant get earned income cause no kids and we make too much $.

My question is: Is this normal for people who are married amd make decent money with no children? I'm not going to have children before Im ready just to get a bigger tax check.

Oh, we have been married for 4 years, and every year we have gotten back $300+ until this year. Nothing has changed(like filing status), and we do have a professional do our taxes.
