OK in a nutshell, me and my hubby owe $400 on taxes. We tried filing a couple different ways(single, joint, ect) and we still owe no matter what. We cant get earned income cause no kids and we make too much $.

My question is: Is this normal for people who are married amd make decent money with no children? I'm not going to have children before Im ready just to get a bigger tax check.

Oh, we have been married for 4 years, and every year we have gotten back $300+ until this year. Nothing has changed(like filing status), and we do have a professional do our taxes.

Sounds like your witholdings should be adjusted. To anticipate what you'll be owing next year you can use the calculator in the source.

As far as earned income credit, you don't have to have any kids for that. For being married filing joint you just have to make under 13,500. If you want I can plug the numbers for you. Just drop me a line. (dragonpetal_99@yahoo.com)

By the way did you know you can deduct the cost of your nurse's uniform & the money it costs to clean it???

If you are using a professional for your taxes and they suggested that filing single is an option for you, change preparers. You're married, so can't file as single - your options are a joint return, or married filing separately.

Look at last year's return and this years, to see where the differences are. It sounds a little strange that last year you got back $300+ and owe $400 this year if nothing changed. But you have to look at your taxable income and tax, not your refund amount. Anybody can get a bigger refund - just have more taken out - that means you're lending Uncle Sam money for the year at no interest, not a good deal for you.

I use hrblock.com to do my taxes. It's soooo easy and it's less than $10 for the basic package. My fiance's parents usually have to pay in because they make good money and they don't have any dependents. Try getting as much deductions as you can suck as paying taxes on your vehicles, boat, 4 wheeler, etc. Good Luck, and just look on the brighter side, it's only $400 instead of a few thousand like my futur inlaws have to do.

Are you sure you did them correctly using the 2006 tax year personal exemptions, standard deductions, and tax rates?

Also it's not good to be getting a large return at the end of the year because then you basically gave the government use of your money all year and eanred $0 interest.
