Hi, I have a question regarding tax rate. I am a Canadian and trying to buy U.S stocks. If I gain money from stocks, I have to pay tax depending on how much profit I made? I am wondering what percentage has to go to the tax. I am going to use Questrade and I am a college student.

I am 28 yrs old and I've been disabled since 04'. I worked part time this year so I went to file my taxes and my refund was rejected due to my mother claiming me. I live in an entirely different state and she doesn't spend one cent on me. The most recent time I did live with her was April 4th of 04 to June 1st of 04 so barely two months. She finally came out and said she's been claiming me for awhile now. Even during the years that I wasn't disabled and had been claiming myself and my children. She isn't my guardian and I take care of myself and my children. I knew nothing about any of this and I want to know what can be done. I never gave her the okay to do so and this year she asked to claim me and I told her no. She did it anyway. Now I'm out of a refund. This has to be wrong.

I am interested to set up a UK Limited Liability Partnership. I am not a UK resident (though EU National). Two questions:
1. Am I subject to UK tax in such a case?
2. Suppose the answer for 1 is "no". How do I withdraw money from the LLP without paying any taxes to UK authorities? Do I just transfer it to my personal bank account?

Thanks.

I have filed an original 1040 last year for 2005. Then I realised that I forgot some info, then I filed an amendment (1040X).
Again I found out that there's still more info that I forgot.
Can I file a second amendment?

I own a rental house. I bought the house so that friends of mine who already lived there would not have to leave when the house was sold. I only paid $50K for it and it was appraised at a little over a $100K. I have owned it for almost 3 years. I have always charged the couple the price of my mortgage payment so I have never made a profit. Now that the husband has been diagnosed with cancer, they are not able to pay the full amount so they pay about $150 less than the actual mortgage payment. TurboTax has indicated that the government may subject me to special rules about how I claim my deductions unless I can prove that I intend to make a profit. TurboTax says that the IRS may believe that I am charging a special rate because they are friends/relatives. It doesn't tell me what those rules are. I need to know what those rules are & what kind of deductions I can take. I need to know if the fact that the property value is so high is sufficient to show that I will make a profit.

I want to file my Federal taxes only (not state). I am 69 years old with an adjusted gross income of less than $52.000. I qualify for many of the IRS recommended "FREE FILE" sites. I have tried 5 of them and after one gets to the end of filling out the forms, they ALL want to charge a fee. What is Free about The Irs FREE File site ? Does anyone know of a truly free site ( for Federal only- not state)

Has anyone else wondered why the IRS free file site is not free ? It seems they all charge. Does anyone know of a filing service that is indeed free for Federal taxes

I am aware that I have to pay US income tax if my income exceeds certain amount even if I work for a foreign company in a foreign country and pay tax and social security of this country

My question is how much do I have to pay US tax after I already paid high income tax and social security in this foreign country. For example, if I would earn 100,000Euro/year in Germany, I am married with no kids and spouse has no job. How does US tax law apply to this situation? Based on what amount do I have to pay US tax? What kind of expenses could be written off for US tax?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards on Sunday said that he would raise taxes, chiefly on the wealthy, to pay for expanded healthcare coverage under a plan costing $90 billion to $120 billion a year to be unveiled on Monday.

"We'll have to raise taxes. The only way you can pay for a healthcare plan that cost anywhere from $90 to $120 billion is there has to be a revenue source," Edwards said on NBC's Meet the Press news program.

Edwards also went on to publicly declare the Bush Tax cuts will be eliminated. Any of you liberals out there still think this is an exaggeration???
