Has anyone else wondered why the IRS free file site is not free ? It seems they all charge. Does anyone know of a filing service that is indeed free for Federal taxes

It is free if you meet the requirements. If you don't looks like you may have to spend some of that cash you made last year.

Eligibility for free filing is based upon your income. The higher that your income is, the less likely you will be eligible for free filing. To be linked up with the Free File system they MUST offer free filing to at least SOME taxpayers.
Most of the providers do charge for state filings, though.
