Maybe.

If you move in conjunction with a job change some of the expenses may be deductible. There are time and distance tests that must be met. If both of you meet the requirements you both can claim the allowable costs.

Here's a link to the IRS topic on the matter. It has links to the various instructions and forms that you need. http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc455.html

My turbotax asked me moving and job expense questions, but since it was really your girlfriend who "had" to move for her job, it sounds like these would be her deductions.

Now, if you two were married filing jointly, then I suppose either one can take the deduction since it would be all added together anyways.

If you also got a job in the new area, you might be able to. Otherwise, no.

And you couldn't double up by claiming the same expenses on both returns. You could only each claim your own.

You weren't transfered. It was your choice to move so only she can perhaps get something back - depending on if her company paid anything or not.
