Irs Free File ?

I want to file my Federal taxes only (not state). I am 69 years old with an adjusted gross income of less than $52.000. I qualify for many of the IRS recommended "FREE FILE" sites. I have tried 5 of them and after one gets to the end of filling out the forms, they ALL want to charge a fee. What is Free about The Irs FREE File site ? Does anyone know of a truly free site ( for Federal only- not state)

have you tried tax act,I filed my father in laws taxes
and it was free
