if i made over $41,000 by myself last year, with no dependents and single and my taxes withheld were almost $2500 but i go to school also and i work as a waitress, how does that make sense? 15% of the wages has to be deducted, am i correct or does it depend on the way human resources calculates the amounts for each employee? because i have to claim 11% of my tips (cash) that i walk with but claim all tips to the cent. how does that actually work?

I would like to know if my Fiancee can claim my children on his income taxes this year? If it would still go under the category as foster children? We live together, and he is the provider for the home. He is the one who brings in the money. Thanks in advance!

Does it support medical care, etc?
I could really use some links to websites explaining this, as well as links to sites with some sort of an opinion paper on what we could place this tax on instead, or about how we could eliminate it compleatly if we were to ban smoking nationwide.
I'm doing a persuasive essay for school in which I am persuading the people in my class to support a nationwide smoking ban.
Help is greatly appreciated. =)

I was offered a job that will be in NYC for 3 months and then move to NJ for the remained of 2007. I understand I will have NYC and state taxes withheld for the 3 months. What are the implications of this situation? Will I be taxed on my entire yearly income in NY or just for 3 months? How will the tax credits work?

I recently started my own consulting job for a company I used to work for. They need extra help and I told them I would. I used my social security number as my tax ID number for my end of year taxes when that comes. Is there anything else I need to fill out as well? The employer will NOT be taking taxes out of my check. I think they said they will send me a 1099 form with everything on it at the end of the year. What is this? also, what would be an appropriate percentage for me to take out of each check and set aside so that I can pay taxes next year on this. Is there anything else I may need to know? Thanks Everyone!

I will be doing all of my taxes myself. How would I go about filing taxes quarterly. I am just used to filing my taxes at the end of the year.

My husband and I made $74k last year, we have one son and our return was $6100.00, trust me I am not complaining but it seems like too much, I think i am just scared that its gonna come back to haunt us or something and we will end up owing it back or something, I dont know, am I just being paranoid?

Does this mean that they agree with the calculations?

What is the likelyhood of being audited after your return has been accepted?

Does this lower the probability of being audited?

Or does it just mean they are acknowledging they have recieved a a complete tax return regardless of what you actually put down?
