I just spoke with H&R Block who always does our taxes cause we got a thing in the mail saying that we owed some money because our child tax credit is wrong from 2005???? I was told by the lady at H&R Block that alot of people are getting things like this from the IRS right now so I was wondering how many other people have got these cause the lady at H&R Block said they were booked up for a while cause of this.

I am thinking of selling my second residence in California. I originally put $60,000 down and owe $140,000. It is now worth approx. $400,000.

I realize I have to pay capital gains, and understand the way around it.

My question is, do I have to pay capital gains on the whole $400,000 (or sale price) or just on the profit once I pay off the $140,000?

Thanks

Yesterday I got a notice from the IRS, It said I made a mistake for 2005, and I still owe $800.00. I have 30 days to pay if I agree with this.

I fully intend to pay this ASAP, But will this be over then, or is there more to come?

Mail from the IRS makes me nervous.

Thanks

We have a substantial amount of tax debt that is burying us financially...we are making payments but we also need a new car. There is a lien on our home so we are unable to get either a consolidation loan or a loan for the car...we both work and so having two cars is non-negotiable. Does anyone know if it's worth if to file an OIC on our own...or should we hire a tax attorney?

I am non-US citizen and worked almost 6 years in the US on an H1 visa but did not accumulate enough social security points to be eligible for any social security benefits. Does the US - like other countries - pay back contributions in such cases?

I am in the process of starting up an LLC for a web-based business. I need to know what state I should form it in. I am a US citizen currently living in NY, and I hope to be able to operate the LLC in either Delaware or Nevada. But my LLC will only have 1 member which will be me. Now I read that a single member LLC is ignored. Here is the statement, "Generally, when an, LLC has only one member, the fact that it is an LLC is ignored or “disregarded” for the purpose of filing a federal tax return. Treasury Regulations Section 301.7701-1,-2,-3" "If you prefer to file as a corporation instead of as a “disregarded entity” Form 8832 must be submitted." http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p3402.pdf

Is this true, and if so would it be best for me to start an S corporation instead.

Also i'm not to clear about Registered agent. Could someone help me shed some light on this, also could someone recommend a good Registered agent. Thanks!

1. Bought 500 shares of XYZ on May 1
2. Bought 500 more shares of XYZ on May 4
3. Bought 500 more of XYZ on May 5

At each interval, the stock price was lower. Should the stock price on XYZ plummet on May 6, and I were to sell the entire position (1500 shares) on that same day, would wash sales rules apply? How could I avoid?

I'm 17 and I just got a job with McDonald's, and I've heard about tax returns, and I was wondering how I can pay more taxes and let the government keep my tax return. Is this possible? I want to pay more taxes that the government can actually keep. Thanks

Recently I am finding that HMRC are seeking to class any company they can as associated for Tax purposes, even when it is blatantly obvious to all concerned that the company has not been set up as a vehicle to avoid tax. Many companies fall foul of what I consider to be poorly drafted legislation in this area.

3 years ago I paid off a repo for a lesser amount and yesterday recieved a letter stating my 2005 income tax was wrong because i didn't account for a canceled debt of $4,000 from Wells Fargo. I'm pretty sure this is not a scam letter.
