The check was issued to me last year and I cashed it. The insurance company discovered they had issued it to me by mistake and they asked me to refund them the money. I did. I would prefer that they contact the IRS and notify the IRS that I did not actually receive any $. Is it possible to issue a 1099 with a negative amount? I kind of need to know this bc the ppl at the insurance co. don't seem to know. I do not earn enough income to claim a deduction from returning the $ to the insurance company (e.g. I have run into the minimum alternative tax where I still have to pay some taxes regardless of expenses/deductions). I am in the United States. Thanks.

Ok say I have a relatively small amount to pay back, under $1000. But don't want to pay in full, I set up a payment plan of around $50/month.. now will I be able to pay more than that some months... like one month I pay the required $50, but the next I pay $200.. is that allowed.. or am I required to pay exactly $50 each month?

Thanks in advance! my husband will be calling them later.. I just wanted to get some answers now!

Last year I started working in July and my husband was self-employed and we ended up oweing a lot in taxes, even though I filed 0 and at higher rate. This year I'm still at higher rate and my husband is looking for work and I will be getting a second job. How should I file for next year's taxes so we don't end up oweing as much as last year?

2. invest in bonds/fixed income assets
3. "refi" my personal mortgage
4. buy investment property

or any other situations where credit card interest is tax deductible?

I am planning to terminate my employment prior to vesting in a signing bonus and want to know exactly how much I will have to repay. Is it the gross amount of the bonus, or can I repay only the portion that I received and the employer can adjust their federal, state, and FICA withholdings.

We did our taxes and owed the state, but had no money to pay it. We mailed our filled out tax forms before the deadline without money. We received money back from the federal taxes and now want to pay our state taxes. How do I do this? What is the address to mail it to? How do I know it will be applied to 'our tax bill'? Can I go there in person? Where is the office at to pay cash in person?

I just received my first pay check and I noticed some weird mistakes. It says Federal 2 and State 1. I noticed that the State deduction were more than the federal deductions. whats wrong with this picture. I don't even know what two means. This is like my first job.

I am filing taxes (<-for a tax return) for my business. I only have a receipt book to prove the sales I made. Will I need anymore "paperwork" when I go to file my taxes? I only made 6800.00 dollars. I was told all I need is my receipt book, is this true?

I just got married, and my new husband owes $3000 in back taxes. I recently read people's answers to a similar question, but I would still like to make sure. We have 2 children, and I usually receive a very nice refund at the end of the year. Will the IRS take that refund from me now that I am married? In this situation would it make more sense to file married filing separately?

Also, the debt is very old, from 1999. Is it still possible for him to contact the IRS and make arrangements to pay the debt off in installments?

Any help would be appreciated!

It's a little past due but we're not too worried...my girlfriend needs to file her income tax return and I did a preliminary 1040EZ and she's owed a refund. She lived in NYC during the 2006 work period but moved to NJ in early 2007. She will be filing everything under the old address (in NYC, NY) but can she redirect the Federal/State refund check(s) to her new address which is different from what is on her W2 statement? Does she just use her new address when filling in the Federal & State tax income tax forms?

I am the executor for an estate where the deceadent owed property taxes and federal income taxes. The state of New York took the deed to the real estate associated with the estate while we are making payments to them for what we owe.

My question is that the estate also owes money on back Federal Income Tax. Can the Federal Government take the deed from the state in this instance?

I'm 55, single and am not sure about having taxes taken out before or after my deductions. Right now I'm having taxes taken out before my deductions, believing this is the best way to go so I won't have to pay taxes later. Would i be better off not having the taxes taken out until I retire?

I get taxed on what I make from work just like everyone else, right? Then, when I choose to invest my money instead of spend it, I get taxed again on my dividends and capital gains. Why are we getting taxed right up our *butts* :) ?! I'm outraged.
