You may bring as much money as you wish. There is no tax on funds brought into the country, nor is there a limit on how much cash that you can bring with you or have sent to you from outside the US.

All transactions of $10,000 or more must be reported, but there is no tax on the funds. This includes imported funds. The reason that reporting is reuquired is to limit the flow of money from drug dealing, terrorism, or other illegal activities.

have your family send you money orders or travellers checks. best to use are "american Express" brand. Also use smller sized ones 100-1000 dollars US. They are small enough to cash most anywhere and no one really questions that small an amount. and have them mailed to you. DO NOT carry them thru customs with you.

leave it in a financial enterprise account - the banks can flow it later for you in case you herald better than US $10,000 funds with you, you could desire to rfile it to US customs and you could desire to state (in all probability prepare) the way you purchased that funds - it is to dodge funds laundering
