I worked at a company for about four months. I started in the end of October last year and quit at the beginning of January. I have not received my W-2 and they said they sent it to me in February. Sooo... Here's the question. Can I go ahead and file my taxes without that W-2 and add it on to next year since I only worked there a short while last year or should i just go ahead and get a tax extension?

I have heard people say that they will not be held accountable for tax fraud, if it is their accountant who is filing the fraudulent claim, ( and signing his own name as tax preparer) is this really true?

They say you can file for an automatic extension of 6 months but that you still have to pay the taxes due. Question 1, if I knew how much was due, wouldn't that mean I did my taxes and therefore would not need an extension? Question 2, if I file for an extension, can I elect to make monthly payments like usual?

The tax deadline is around the corner (April 17). Can I postpone the filing until after April 17. What are the implications? I was told it evaluated differently for two thing - 1) You have to pay 2) you get returns. If I have to pay then its very simple and I can extend but if I owe some money to Govt. then I can postpone but I will have to pay interest on that amount.

I dont know how this works out or what the implications are in terms of fines and limitations. Can someone please clarify.

According to calculations the average non citizen immigrant even if they pay taxes will cost our country 2.2 Trillion Dollars over one generations lifetime because of government services such as medical, ect. Does it seem yet as though someone is trying to disrupt our economy?

I live in New Jersey however 100% source of my income is from New York. For which state should I file my state taxes? My employer has been withdrawing New York state taxes from my paycheck. Also, with New York State taxes being higher than New Jersey - even if I file my NJ taxes, I won't owe NJ anything... Do I still need to file? I only rent and don't own a house in NJ. Thanks

My fiance has a relative that is a CPA who did her taxes. She only only made about $30000 last year. When we get married in 08, we're going to have a combined income over $130,000.

Her CAP told her she could only do $1600 in a traditional IRA. I asked her why not put $4000 into a Roth (for someone in her tax bracket, it seems like a no-brainer, because when we're married, she's going to be in a higher tax bracket).

I never got a straight answer and I didn't want to argue because - he's a CPA and I just dabble in this. Basically, he said the consensus is that the government is going to do something that makes Roth IRAs bad and you should avoid using them.

Has anyone heard of this, or am I missing something incredibly stupid.

I incurred employee expense during business trip in the last quarter of 2005 and didn't include it in 2005 returns as I was expecting the reimbursement. Since I didn't get reimbursement for it , I would like to include it as 'unreimbursed expenses' in itemized deductions in 2006 tax returns. Is it allowed ?

Media was deluged yesterday with FAIR TAX, and it made me wonder...could this be a clever way to track ALL financial activity, AND require the National ID in order to eliminate cheating?

Is the IRS a beautiful thing after all, as it gives us 364 days of freedom and privacy?
