I worked at a company for about four months. I started in the end of October last year and quit at the beginning of January. I have not received my W-2 and they said they sent it to me in February. Sooo... Here's the question. Can I go ahead and file my taxes without that W-2 and add it on to next year since I only worked there a short while last year or should i just go ahead and get a tax extension?

No, you can't just add it on to next year - you have to file a return for 2006.

Filing for an extension would be a good idea at this point - see http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf?portlet=3 for info on how to request this.

Call them again and ask them to send you another copy, or see if you can just stop by their office and pick it up. If you still don't get it in a week or two, call the IRS and tell them what's going on.

You have to claim the wages in the year they were earned. If you have not received your w-2's, the employer is required to keep a copy, so you can file a copy of the w-2's. Have them make a copy for you. I would pick it up instead of having them mail it. You may want to get an extension if you are crunched for time.

You have to file your taxes this year. One way you can file without a W-2 is to base your income on th last pay stub you got from this company ending in December 2006. In it, you can find the your total income and taxes withheld year to date. Make a copy and attach it with your tax form like you would with a W2.

You have to report your earnings in the year in which they were earned. Call the irs and ask what W-2 they have on record for you as the company has to send one to the government as well as yours.
