Media was deluged yesterday with FAIR TAX, and it made me wonder...could this be a clever way to track ALL financial activity, AND require the National ID in order to eliminate cheating?

Is the IRS a beautiful thing after all, as it gives us 364 days of freedom and privacy?

Sure, freedom & privacy ... unless you're audited. Then your whole life is open to inspection.

What you said makes no sense. No one has any privacy. Every time you use your debit card or credit card your purchases are being tracked. And if you go to the grocery store and use the card they give you to get the sale prices ... that's really selling your soul to the devil, because who knows what they do with that information?

And how about this forum? You think they're not collecting information about you here? Of course they are. And who knows who's seeing it.

No ... the fair tax sounds like a good plan to keep the poor from being quite so poor. I think it's an excellent idea.

The IRS is not a beautiful thing! It is the opposite of what this country was founded on. This country was based on freedom from the tax man, and all of which it stands for. The only way to get out from under the IRS AND Uncle Sam, is to pass the Fair Tax as written. It is fair to all, rich and poor alike. The beauty of it is that if you make under the poverty level, you will not pay one penny. Taxes based on income, is the most unfair way to pay. What we as individuals should want is to pay our fair share, and let this country operate on taxes from receipts. If there is a need for extra taxes such as national defense, then add one percent to the purchase of an item.

It's not a scam. In reality, it should cause more personal freedom because you wouldn't file a tax return I don't believe. Instead, it's a simple consumption tax. I walk in, buy a $20,000 car and pay $3000 taxes (or whatever). There wouldn't be any tracking I'm aware of.

Read Neal Bortz's book about it if you're interested. I haven't, but I might. I don't see us going to it - it's too simple and too fair. Politicians wouldn't have enough to complain about and a lot of accountants/lawyers/IRS people would lost their jobs (which is sucking blood from tax payers).

The FairTax Plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.
This nonpartisan legislation (HR 25) abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax – administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.
The IRS is disbanded and defunded.
The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn.
The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.
There would beno need for any kind of tracking because if you don't spend you dont pay. Its that simple.

It's not government sponsored, it's mostly private organizations and people (like Neil Boortz) who are proposing it.

But can you imagine the tracking that would be required to really implement it? They can't enforce current laws - this will work real well, uh-huh.

Anything to do with taxes' or government is 50% ripoff and 50% waste and abuse.
