A friend that used to be an accountant told us several years ago we needed to file 2 mostly identical 1040s, one in Her name with me as the spouse, and 1 in my name with her as the spouse. All the numbers would be the same, just the names reversed. Do I still need to do that?

I know it's somewhat late to ask. I did this small job while in university. My school did not take out any taxes. Any tax experts know?

I live in Illinois, I get my EIN, and I got my IBT, now I am ready for my sales tax ID. I think I already figured out how to get it, I just need you fine people to confirm to me that I am in the right place.

I go here first: http://business.illinois.gov/tax_onlineFiling.cfm
I finally end up here: https://www.revenue.state.il.us/app/stii/

So this is the online application to get my salex tax ID, right?

I made about $25,000 dollars last year and I decided to let another relative claim my dependent on her tax return. However, I claimed my dependent on my W-4 and was collecting that in my net income. How much will I owe the IRS since I'll be filing single no dependents?

I am filling in for a month or so doing medical transcription - I don't think I will make more than $400 a month but do not know if I will be needed thru the whole summer - so I could make anywhere from $400 to $2400. What is the most I can make without claiming the income? Do I have to claim this money on my taxes no matter what? Do I need to get a 1099 from the Drs I am typing for? or from the woman I am typing for since I am kinda subcontracting off of her?

My husband's employer provided a vehicle for him to drive (for both business and personal) during part of last year. They gave him a 1099-misc with $1155.13 in Box 7. On which line do I put this amount on our 1040 form? Do I have to put it on a Schedule C also? I can't find a place on the Schedule C that looks like an appropriate place to put it, so where does it go on that form (if Schedule C is needed)? This is the only hang up I have on doing our taxes. Please help soon! Thank you in advance for all answers.

I am the custodial parent and I have physical custody of the child. Her father claimed her on his taxes before I did without my knowledge or permission. What are the fines and penalties involved with this type of fraudulent filing for him? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I am a little bit confused about local taxes and school taxes. My local income tax was taken out of my pay for the 2006 year and reported in box #19 on my W-2 in the amount of 293.75. The school tax liability is .75% and the local is .50%. Where I get confused is here:
On both forms it states something along these lines.."For taxpayers who's local taxes where withheld by your employer enter the amount listed on your W-2. However, the amount withheld must be equal to or lesser than the tax liability amount. Do not enter a larger #. Ok, this makes sense..on both forms the tax liability amount was less than the total 293.75 therefore I put the equal amount as per the directions. School form it was 220.31, and on the local it was 146.88. What I really need to know, if I am suppossed to use the amount in box #19 for both forms....then why don't the tax liability amounts add up to 293.75 or does that matter? Sorry but this is my first time on these!!!
