go to the irs.gov website and click on 'where's my refund'. You will have to answer some questions such as your AGI as reported etc, so have a copy of your return handy. That should be a good place to start.

If you can't get anywhere with them, your last resort is taxpayer advocacy (although I think they usually focus on audits etc).

Also, call your bank and explain the situation, they may be able flag the check or give you some history.

Remember, your refund can take up to 28 business days, longer if there are any irregularities on it. But start with the irs.gov site.

By closing your checking account you have delayed your refund by weeks. Also, check the account number that you had against the one on the tax form to make sure you did not make a mistake.

You don't say how and when you filed your taxes because it does make a BIG difference how long it takes. Did you e-file or file a paper return?

Also when you closed your account, if the refund is sent to the bank, the bank bounces it back. Then you have to wait weeks for another check to be processed and it may be mailed to your mailing address...don't move or it will take even longer.

IRS has a phone number you need to call there. Also inform the bank, where was your checking account, they probably inform you also, if something coming to your account. You can look also on the Internet IRS, there is a site "where is my refund". Normally refunds, if you made it electronically just take 2 weeks, if you mailed 4-6 weeks.

The check should have been deposited a couple weeks after you filed, so there shouldn't have been a problem. But if it wasn't, there is obviously some holdup. Check irs.gov "where's my refund" to see what they think it's status is.

If a direct deposit is rejected by the bank, and yours will be if it shows up now, they'll do a paper check and mail it to you.

Call your state "fare share" office, you may have for file a addendum to your taxes for them to send you the check and not just credit it to your next years taxes.
