I have an adult non relative living in my household for the entire tax yr of 2006. They have no income. Can I claim them as a dependant?

Can you supply a website to verify any positive information you provide?

Thank you so much for your help!

You can be just a regular average person and do someone's taxes and have them pay you right? Because there is a section on the tax form where it ask if you are self employed. I am not self employed per say, i work for a living. Are there any restrictions to preparing someone's taxes?

Even if elegible for other deductions, like under India Tax Treaty, it's not needed to go through all that since you'll get a full refund of taxes paid anyways..correct?

...that with the Fair Tax in the US you would get a "rebate" check EVERY MONTH instead of just once a year? ...that you would not have to file taxes at all?

Think how much better off we'd be with the IRS completely gone...unless you are an accountant or a tax evader or here illegally.

Your thoughts?

I have been living in MA all year as a student and have no income from RI, only MA income. However, I continue to use my parent's RI address as a permanent address, including on my Federal 1040 form. I have no intention to return to RI after graduation so I do not consider myself domiciled there. Do I still have to fill out a RI state tax return? Thanks in advance for any answers.

I have been in a payment plan with the IRS for 4 years, during that time I have accrued a lot of interest. I am wondering if any of that is deductible when I file subsequent years or amend the years previous.

Ok, last year I won on 2 slot machines at a casino. I received 2 seperate W-2g forms. I they both total, say $2700.00. I lost one of the w-2 G forms. I had been calling the casino to see if I could get a replacement, but to no avail. So I went on and filed the return and put 2900.00 as reported gambling winnings using all of the info on the one W-2 g form that I had. ( I learned that understating income is a NO-NO...) Does anyone know if I will trigger an audited for doing this even though I listed more winnings than I actually won? I was simply trying to not have the IRS on my butt. Any comments would be appreciated, especially those who really know the deal. THANKS.

Ok...I know I royally screwed up last year. I changed my dependents at the beginning of 2006 to 7 (I was having a hard time and I heard this would help get more money on paycheck) I didn't realize until I went to get my taxes filled out last month that when you do that all year long you will not have any Federal held out on you. I should have only did that for 6 months. When H & R Block told me this I was scared to death. I didn't fill them out then. People I talked to told me to wait until the very last day to file. So that is what I was planning on doing today....well sadly my fiance's aunt passed away yesterday and we have to travel 250 miles one way to go to the funeral this weekend. I will not have the money to file. I called and ask for an extension and they explained to me how to do it but told me if I owe anything it has to be paid before April 17th but how will I now how much I have to pay if I am not filing yet? Also, is there anyway I can get an extension on paying it back?

They already pay something like 25-35% of their salary to tax, plus they make more in interest, dividends, investments, etc. that they get taxed on, they have a bigger house so their local taxes are higher, they spend more so they pay more tax that way, right? Isnt there more tax on a Mercedes than a Kia? I understand they make a ton of money but it isnt fair. They already pay a higher percent to taxes, right? And a higher overall amount to taxes, right? What else do you want. What if all the people that made 30k a year wanted to tax the people who make 55k a year. Hey they make more than me so kill them with taxes. Rich people are already paying a much higher percent of their income to tax. I dont see this as a solution to any problem. No matter how much you give the government its not enough. The only way to fix the gov. financially will be to get honest politicians, o wait they dont exist lol,and cut wasteful spending

I owe $2,000.00 dollars. What would the interest rate be,how does it accrue, how long would i have to pay if I went the IRS payment plan route? I know I should have them take more out during the year, but if I did, I could not live on my paycheck.

I have a 401K that is vested for around 100000 US$ and I am allowed to take it after I leave the employer. I do plan to go back to India. Is it possible to take 15,000 $ per year and avoid paying federal and state taxes ( Since Iam out of country and not a resident + it falls with less income per annum). Is there a penalty that I have to pay while taking money out. I will have closed all my bank accounts except this IRA/401K account and so how would I pay the penalty and any taxes that might occur. Please advice.

I was doing some thinking and I have come to the conclusion about a certian tax our goverment ought to do in every state.
The United States talks about our health care problem and you know it really is a problem, so I propose that our Goverment take 2.00 a week out of everyone in the United states pay checks thats only 8.00 a month from everyone but then we all in the United States who are from here get free Medical and no more worries then with most that money, they pay Doctors/Hosp/Medications/ etc, I think it would work, whos for this? I mean since our country send other countries tons of money for help etc, I think we all can help each other, I think most people in the US would go for this if it were proposed and yes i do work and yes I would not mind this happening.
