I have 2 questions:
(1) I lived the whole year with my fiance and her 2 daughters, and I provided the whole year living support to her and the children. Can I claim then as dependent when I file my tax-return?
(2) She would like to file her return herself so because she did not have income so that she could take more benefit. If that case, dose she have to report my monthly deposit as her income if she filed separately

i have a past due for maryland state tax of about $800 that i haven't been able to pay (tax year 2005, filed in feb of 2006). is that what an "offset" is? this year i'm getting back $4000 from federal and owe maryland $100. i did an e-file through HR Block on feb 26, 2007. the IRS website says it should've been direct deposited on march 9, 2007 but still haven't gone in to my account. i'm guessing it's because of the $800 i owe for tax year 2005. is that what's causing the delay?

can someone explain to me in plain english what's going on. i don't know anytihng about this stuff. are they going to deduct $800 of my $4000 return this year to pay for last years state tax i owe? being that i should've gotten the refund already (except for the fact that i owe for last year), how long does this delay the refund process?

i live in florida and i guess i can only claim 1. single no children. i'm a mortgage broker so i usually have larger paychecks that aren't on the week to week basis. half of 2006 i was getting 1099 checks and the other half i got w2 checks. the w2 has 26,833 in total income and they took out $5,424 federal and $1663 S.S. my 1099 came to $28,128 so a total of $54,961 for 2006 income. i don't really have any write-offs. maybe mileage and gas and some advertising, ($1,500).

how much more will i owe in taxes? i'm seeing my accountant on wednesday. lets see who is the closest!!!!!!!!

If I'm filing a tax form by paper and paid a company like H&R Block to fill it out for me, are they required to complete and sign the bottom where it says Preparer's Signature, Address, etc? Cause they left it blank?
Thanks for your advice.

forgot to pay my electric bill, reason being i never get bills sent to my cafe only home address and as i have pre-paid meters at home, i never open any bills that scottish power send me, unless i think on and that this might be a cafe bill,, anyway, a guy comes in the cafe 2 weeks ago, from scottish power. wrote him a cheque for the amount owing, then this week i get a bill for this quarter plus last quarter, which i have already paid. and this must have been added vat to. but they have added the two amounts together and vatted me again,, i know the first bill is paid, so it must be in the transaction, but can they really charge you VAT twice?

I mean all of these crazy rules that you have to follow to be "legal" and pay taxes "legally" are insane!
It is like a game of "Simon Says"!

And you NEVER KNOW if they are going to "audit" you or not. maybe........ YOU ARE NEXT!

Do you know about the Fair Tax plan? You should.

How can we bring more businesses to the US, and keep US companies from sending our jobs overseas? How can we get tax evaders and illegals to pay taxes? How can we get rid of a confusing tax code?

Do you know how much you actually PAY in taxes? No? There's a reason for that.

I just read a question about why we should pay taxes on things we don't personally use. The Fair Tax has many answers and would solve ALOT of problems.

Please go to www.fairtax.org, or read The Fair Tax Book by John Linder and Neal Boortz to learn more.

My wife and I do not nor will not have kids, and yet we have to pay the same taxes as everyone else who do. Your kids use the school and you get the tax deduction just for reproducing. I have to pay double the taxes. How is this fair?

My question is related to the IRA deduction. In 2006 I change of contract with my employer. Since October 6, 2006 I am now eligible for a retirement plan with my company (401k). This appear now in my W2. (box 13)

Since I did not know it will happen I participate to my IRA from Januray to end of September 2006.

Am I eligible to claim deduction or since I am now on 401K it is not possible for 2006 at all ?

The individual giving the gift is not a US citizen. If the amount given was done so by a US citizen it would exceed the amount permited without having to pay a tax.
