I mean all of these crazy rules that you have to follow to be "legal" and pay taxes "legally" are insane!
It is like a game of "Simon Says"!

And you NEVER KNOW if they are going to "audit" you or not. maybe........ YOU ARE NEXT!

No, they are not = the 'Rules of the game' are published on the Internet for all to see.

I agree the Rules are complex, however this is why those not on PAYE hire Accountants.

IR are allowed to run 'random' Audits on anyone they like. Usually the ONLY run an Audit if they think you are on the fiddle.

NB. If you think Tax Office are 'heavy handed' you have never met the VAT people :-)

There should be a rule that people like you shouldnt have to pay taxes. Then if ever you need to call the Police or Fireservice etc they will not attend until you have paid them via an instant money transfer. What a ludicrous question, the problem is whether or not we are paying too much? The main tax we are paying too much for is petrol, then road tax and inheritance tax. The list goes on and on. The only way to reduce taxes is to return al the illegal immigrants and overstayers, vote for a differant party. Introduce stiffer penalties for lawbreakers...OMG youve made me sound like a politician, how can I ever forgive you!

I agree that the tax code is complicated and strange but the IRS is not even close to a "secret police!" (e.g., did you know that the tax code is specific about how "embezzlement" money is suppose to be reported as income on your return?)

BTW, very few people get audited. You may get a tax notice about something picky or they may just be stupid but there is a reason. You just have to respond and keep good records. But, hey that's your responsibility!

Tax authorities do a great job, they take our money to keep this country great. So be grateful for them.
