I'm a married college student who has never made more than 7,000$ annual income. I read a couple of years ago somewhere on the irs website(i think) that dependants don't need to pay income tax until they make over 7,500 or something like that. Is this true? and if so, now that I'm not a dependant, when do i have to start paying taxes? You would think it would be easy for me to figure this out but i have searched everywhere on the internet and cant find anything about it. Thanks ^_^

All advice is welcome as long as it does take advantage of any legal loopholes (I don't want to get in trouble). All I did this year is take the standard deduction with my 1 personal exemption. I wrote off my student loan interest and took the 30 dollar phone credit.

I contributed the max $15,000 to my company 401K. With an adjusted AGI $102,880 for Single taxpayer, the IRS spreadsheet indicates a maximum ROTH IRA contribution of $1900 is allowed.

My question is whether a non-deductible contribution to traditional IRA in the amonut of $2100 is allowed. This keeps IRA contributions to $4000... is this allowed?

thanks,

Chaz

Hi,

I am currently doing a report on different methods of tax evasions. I know that pyrmading, paying workers in cash, etc.

But how about people doing businesses online? Online stores, such as selling replicas and any other fraudulent activities? Can this also be used as another example of tax evasion? Because surely they wouldn't file taxes when their business is abusing others' copyright or trademark, right?

Can someone help and clarify that for me, because if possible, I really want to include it in my papers?

Thank you very much.
Lelia

It's been 4 weeks since I electronically filled my state return. I called today to find out what the hold up is in getting my refund back. I was told my return "was selected for review" and that I should have my refund 6 to 8 weeks after the date my state accepted my return.
What exactly happens when a return is reviewed?
Is the government just making sure my numbers are right?
