Advertising expenses are deductible by a business. As with all business expenses, they must be reasonable and necessary to the business.

If you have an income producing activity (business), then yes of it is a necessary business expense.
But if you're referring to advertising as a personal expense, then no.
If you are a sole proprietor, then you'd deduct it on your schedule C. For other business types, it is a separate line item on page 1 of the return (1120, 1120S, 1065, etc.)

Obviously you should ask a tax expert, which I'm not, but I think that it is deductible.
Usually any legitimate expense you have to run a business is deductible. Stamps, printer cartridges, internet connection etc can (normally) all be deducted, at least in part, so I assume advertising would be covered too.

If its a personal ad, or not business-related, then no, it is not deductible. If you are self-employed and file a Schedule C you could deduct it as a business expense.
