What was the outcome? Did you panic? Did you keep all your records and reciepts as neatly as a rat keeps a shoe box?

So I currently live in AZ and did my return and found out VA IRS says I owe then like 1600 from 2001. The thing is I never even lived there till 2002. I asked how they even came up with this amt since I I only lived and worked there for like 5 mos. I filed my 2001 return in VA from the previous yr in AZ. So VA said they estimated what I owed by my 2002 work history. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have been filing taxes since age 16 and am now 28 and never owed more than 400.

I have filed tax return for the past many years and either paid owed tax or received the refund.

But I would like to re-calculate the tax amount for year 2002, because I might have over paid the owed tax.

Is it possible to re-file that far back? Any penalty?
I have seen on TV commercials that Tax refund agencies like H&R Block can re-check the 2005 tax year and get your money back if you have overpaid.

For the year 2002, is it too late?

Does anyone know?

I am on full disability (SSDI), I won $10,200.79 on a game on Television. They are sending me a form to fill out for taxes (think it was 1099?) and an affidavit, once that's sent back I get the check in 10 days. My 2 questions are.....
1.Do I have to pay taxes on that money?
2.Aren't I able to make a certain amount of money each year without paying taxes on it?

Thanks for your help. harleynh

Can I claim an oklahoma inmate as a dependant on my tax return? This individual was claimed on my 2005 taxes because this person lived with me for more than half that year, but as an inmate for 2006 I have continiously sent money to him for his hygiene like toothbrush, shoes, clothes, snacks, etc.... I have kept the money order reciepts that I sent to this person, When i was doing my taxes it asked me if I supported him for half the year and in a way I strongly feel that I did. This person I have lived with for 5 years before being an oklahoma inmate. - Appreciate any answers- thank you kindly

I have a condo in GOZONE property and I'm considering electing the bonus depreciation. We plan on selling the unit within two years. What are the tax consequences of doing so, I know I will have to recapture depreciation to ordinary income, but does this include the bonus depreciation? Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I screwed up and filed my federal return on citizentax.com and have to file state taxes as a part year resident in MO and IL. These aren't yet supported by citizentax so now I am searching for a site where you can file ONLY state taxes for a relatively cheap fee.

I've received a few letters from the Orange County California Tax Collectors stating that I owe back taxes for Unsecured Property Taxes and I am confused why I'm continually getting them.
The taxes are for a house that my mother owned from 1987-2005 (October), but my mom passed away and we sold the house. But now I keep receiving the letters stating they have reassessed that property for 2003 and 2004 and that I owe a good chunk of money. I also paid some taxes already for the same years after the place sold, but now I'm receiving more.

Can someone explain why I would be receiving this?

Here's a link to the property that is in question.
http://tax.ocgov.com/tcweb/search_addr.asp?streetname=23265%20%20COSO&req_string=23265%20coso%20Mission%20Viejo&t_city=MV&t_page=0

Are unsecured property taxes only for vessels, tractors and such or can it be applied to houses? Also, shouldn't these back taxes be owed by the new owner?

So confused.
Thanks for your help!

I've filed my Schedule C for Federal taxes...but am not certain about filing State Taxes for the state where I did the contract work. The amount is very small...so it may not be necessary to file, but I'd like to hear what you all have to say about it. :)

Hi, I am in the process of preparing my income tax return, and I was hoping someone could advise me on the following:
1) A friend of mine warned me that being paid by cash or check may be illegal, since it hints at activity that is being done under the table. Now this of course has alarmed me, and I do want to pay my taxes. Is he correct?
2) I babysat for a couple of families on a part-time basis. I considered myself a contractor, so I am using Schedule C. But I did not receive a 1099 from the families. I can still file Schedule C without being penalized for not having a 1099, right?
3) I was unfortunately bad with accounting. I don't have an exact idea of how much I made, but I do have a pretty good idea of how much I earned, since I can estimate the hours per week I worked. Any advice on this matter.

Thank you so much.

Does any one have experience of the best way of investigating if a possible refund is due.
What is the process in effectively asking the inland revenue to provide a statement proving that I have paid the correct level of income tax.
Answers would be appreciated from any other UK taxpayers who have paid their pound of flesh and would be wondering if they have overpaid.

Thank you in advance.
