I was wondering what could happen when I claim 10 all year (and withhold $80 per month additional)? I do not have 10 dependant's, in fact I have don't have any. However, I file and pay what I owe every year. Is this fraud even though I pay it back?

My husband and I were planning on filing jointly this year as this is the first year we were married. My employer generally doesn't send out our w2's till the very last minute. My husband already has his. My question is, do we have to wait or is there any way we can file before they get here? I have heard something about using my last pay check stub to file. Would it be better if we filed Married but separately? We have a daughter that was born Dec. 1 so we will be getting the child tax credit, but not the EIC because we make too much for that one. Thank you!

I have always prepared mine and wifees taxes as a joint return and it was always easy cause we took standard deduction and did not itemize.....But last year I changed jobs and emptied out my 401k that I had with that employer. Now I know I have to report this somehow...just seems very confusing and I don't want the IRS breathing down my neck if I screw it up. Any thoughts???

Tough question. Here are the details. I am the custodial parent. Due to Divorce papers my ex-wife gets to claim her for 2006. Also, She has two other children that she will claim as dependents this year. My ex-wife only made 25000 gross in 2006. Claiming my daughter would have no affect on her taxes. So I asked her if I can claim her since she will not receive any benefit. Of course the answer was no. SHOULD I CLAIM HER ANYWAYS? On top of all of this I only receive $50 a month in Child Support and pay for all of the daycare expenses. Would the IRS come down hard on me if we both claimed her even though she received no benefit from doing so?

He admitted this to her and they want this to be rectified before they marry; where should he begin? He of course doesn't want to get into trouble and is afraid of opening this can of worms. Does anyone know a good starting point or a good Q&A web site?

My husband is an At-Home Dad and had a few part time jobs during the year. I thoughtif the amount is less than $600 you don't file. If so, would I file "married separately"?
