the company i work for has a 401k plan that has the option for before or after tax contributions. for before tax, the limits are 1-15% of the paycheck and for after it's 1-3%. the company also matches up to 4% on the before tax contributions. for the after tax, why don't they offer a match and why are the limits so low? please explain as simply as possible, as i am not too literate in all the investment/retirement language (though i want to be someday). thanks in advance.

I know that the deadline for normal employers is Jan 31st to get your W2 forms to you. I am wondering if anyone else separated ( I honorably served my 4 year enlistment) and how this worked out for them? Maybe there is a website or phone number I can call to check on this sort of thing? It's tax time baby and I'm anxious.

Late on paying my 2006 real estate taxes. If they are paid now (or up until "x" time), can they still be applied to this year's tax return - or do they have to go on next years' return?

I have filed my taxes through H&R Block online. I got a email saying that my return was accepted yesterday and then a few hours later I got another email saying that my refund will be deposited in my account within 48 hours. Does this sound right? I thought that they did refunds on fridays for direct deposit not on a tuesday or wednesday. Also would the irs accept my refund yesterday as stated? (was it not a holiday for them?)

I'm a graduating senior majoring in finance at the University of Wisconsin. I am familiar with personal and home business tax returns. I would like to earn some money on the side by helping other people do their tax returns for them. I do not have a CPA.

Do I need any special type of licensing or do I need to meet any specific requirements? What stuff do I need to take care of before I go out there and start promoting myself as somebody who can do taxes?
