My son is paid under the table $6.50 per hour. He rents a room and has no deductions. He is looking for a better job. If he gets one how much will have to earn assuming the correct taxes are taken out in order to clear at least $6.50 per hour. He lives in Jacksonville, NC

Somewhere around $7.70, to cover social security and medicare deductions, and state and federal income taxes.

Getting paid under the table is looking for trouble in the long run. If he gets caught, he'll end up having to pay back taxes plus penalties. If he can find something legal, would sure be better.
