I sold some stock in 2001 and 2002 and I failed to file my taxes. I have received my tax refunds for the years filed aftwerwards. I sold some short term gain stock those years, and I had very few possible deductions at that time. It is looking like I owe quite a bit of $$ for interest and penalties. I am capable of filling out the standard forms, but not calculating the interest/penalties. Should I consult a tax professional? Will a professional be able to do anything that may help reduce my amount owed. I don't want to make this more costly than it already is.

I'm currently not a student and I'm getting ready to re-enroll for the 2007-08 fall semester. Usually my mother would claim me as a dependent except for last year when I decided to go solo. This time around I'd like to figure out whether it makes a difference if I claim solo again or is it recommended bo file with your parent. I do understand you may get more financial aid if you claim as a dependent, right? What can you guys suggest?

I started out working in Feb. 2006, was injured in Aug 2006, and have been on workers comp from August - present. I am going to be filing taxes soon, do I just include my income from Feb - Aug, and not include workers comp because it's not taxable? Or do I include my yearly salary, as well as the workers comp? If it matters, I live in Arizona. Not sure about the state regulations for this.

I haven't a business license or anything yet. I will do that shortly. This started out to be a hobby and well, I've earned money on it. Probably about 7-8k this year. With the EITC in mind, will i still get money back on taxes if I hadn't paid out on taxes for my sales?

The restaurant I work at is small and locally owned. For my tips my manager told me to report 11% of all the money I collect from the customers for the meal (not including tips), except for the credit cards, on the credit cards I report 11% from the tips and not the money for the meal. I have been told this sounds a bit shadey, I mean I only make $2.65 an hour and after taxes it comes out to a dollar an hour, I would appreciate any help or comments on this. I live in Indiana.

I'm currently employed in the state of Ohio but may do some consulting work. I claim single zero and am paying roughly 21% tax on about $3300 a month. I'm wondering what I would have to charge to have the same take home after paying taxes via a form 1099 (if I have this all figured out right) at the end of the year.

Any help by chance?
