If you have a business with any significant amount of expenses, it can be a good idea to use an accountant at least the first year, so they can help you understand how to file and what you can deduct.

If you are not comfortable with trying it on your own or with software like TaxCut or Turbotax, then having help is a good idea.

If your return is fairly simple, or it hasn't changed a lot since last year except for the specific numbers, then you shouldn't have a lot of trouble doing it yourself.

Turbo Tax makes it pretty easy for almost anyone to use. I would use a professional if you own a home, have kids, lots of deductions, a business etc. Only if it is a complcated situation.
