Shift work job requires staying overnight during days of work - renting an apt would be cheaper than hotel/motel but is that cost considered "travel expense" if job is permanent??

I am a new student this year. All of my classes that I am taking are online. I could write off my cable bill right and along with any supplies I've bought like paper, ink and even my PC right?

I just got remarried in Aug 2006. I just realized that I have yet to change my last name on my SS card. Does that need to be done prior to filing for our taxes this year?

Ok, my (ex) husband and I got divorced in 2001 and according to our divorce papers he gets to claim her for even years IF his child support is current at the end of the year. Well, I'm waiting for documentation from the Prosecutor's office (he lost his job at one point, but made additional payments), but I think he may have actually caught it up! I was on TurboTax trying to get an estimate of what my federal tax return would be without claiming her as an exemption and it wouldn't give me the child tax credit for her. I could've sworn that the custodial parent (she lives with me all 12 months) still got the child tax credit and EIC even if they weren't able to claim them as dependents.

Our home state of record through the military was and still is "Missouri". We bought a house in Virginia (where we are stationed now) in June. Do we have to file for both states a return?

Hi
My wholesale supplier has asked me to provide them with an intra-Community VAT number:
This is the individual VAT number given to all taxable persons in the European Community.
I am not VAT registered and am a sole trader.
I am a higher rate taxpayer.
How do I get such a VAT number without formally registering for VAT?
Thanks
Trudy

Hi,
I got married in 2005.
I got a tax refund based on only 1 exemption for 2005(myself).
Later,I found out that I could have claimed my wife as another dependant(She is not employed) and gotten more money back.
So my question is can I claim last years exemption with this year's tax return or is it too late.

Thank you in advance

Srini

I have yet to claim my tuition from 2001 -2003 on my income tax. Is it too late to claim it? Is there a cut off limit? I don't even know how much unused tuition I have to claim, where would I find this information out? Thanks.

I had multiple jobs in the past 2 years and never filed my taxes before. Now I'm wondering if I could still add those jobs from 2004 and 2005?

Then shouldn't we be allowed to pick the programs we personally support? I do not believe my husband should have to work an extra 20 hours per week to support through his taxes the co-habitating couple with 4 kids on government welfare-why should they get $2000 per month in food stamps and $800 housing allowance.

I would rather support breast cancer research, Autism and feed those truly hungry like hurricane victims..that is where my tax dollars should go.
