Nope, you can't file your returns without W2. The Block commercial is very misleading. W2s are required in order to file tax returns. This is required by the IRS not a rule determined by individual tax preparation providers. IRS even has rules for creating substitute W2 if your employer doesn't send you an original W2 by the end of January.

The product that H&R Block is offering is actually a loan in advance of filing your returns. They use your last pay check stub to do a good estimate of your return, then lend you the money at 36% APR plus $25 processing fee (fee waived if you elect to use their preloaded Master Card). You have to pay the loan back by Feb 19 in order to avoid additional finance charages. You still have to file tax return after receiving your W2.

Best wishes.

No.

These ads are misleading. They do not file your taxes without a W-2.

Instead, they use your W-2 to estimate your tax refund, and then make a loan out to you. When you get your W-2, you file, get your refund, and pay back the loan.

You can file your taxes anywhere without a W-2 form. You just need your last pay stup.
