I just want to get a rough idea of my return until I receive my W-4,I am not using this for an actual return.

One suggestion I would make is to try a tax estimator such as the one linked below.

Plug in the information from your final pay stub as well as your other tax information (that you know already) to get a rough idea of your tax situation.

Yes, as this is your best indicator of your wages, and the taxes withheld. You will receive your w-2 from your employer by the 31th of January 2007, along with 1099 from interest and dividends by that date.

download all forms, schedules and instructions needed.

Also if your AGI (adjusted gross income) from line 38 of the 1040 return, is under $52,000, you may use the www.irs.gov - site to file electronically.
Just click on FREE filing. The sites - (you choose 1) have questions just like the "boxed" software that you buy.

You are right to prepare your return in rough - before you do any filing.

You can go to taxact.com and sign up for the free standard downloadable version and just enter your YTD from the final paystub,follow the step by step instructions and in the upper right corner it will give you a rough idea without you having to complete the filing.
