I'm single with no dependants and I don't own a home. This last year I grossed $7500 and I do have a side business but didn't make more than $2000 doing that. So what can I do? Any credits or write off advice that might help me get something back this season? Thanks.

I previously asked a question regarding the estimated tax penalty at the end of the year and if the IRS will allow a payment plan. My new question involves owing about $2035 in taxes (I am self employed). If I am not able to pay the full amount, would I be able to make payment arrangements with the IRS or I would only be able to do that with the penalty? I am sure I will be charged a penalty, as I will not be doing the quarterly payments. Thanks.

I have a joint savings account with someone. When we file taxes do we both have to claim the interest or just one of us? We are not married.

I didn't have any income this year, however I paid proprety taxes as well as a mortgage that was mostly interest. Can I file or should I file taxes for the year? Why or why not? My thinking is that I should get something back for my property taxes no??

I did not make my estimated tax payments this year. If I don't file a return this year, and make all my payments next year, then file for the past 2 years, will that get me over paying any penalty for this year??? If not, is there any way around not paying a penalty.

If I should happen to owe an estimated tax penalty at the end of the year, would I be able to make payments, or does the IRS require the entire payment up front, by a due date? What happens a person does not have the entire amount to pay immediately for an estimated tax penalty? Surely this lovely country won't throw a person in jail because they can't shell out an extra 200 or 300 dollars.

Just curious.

ok its very confusing but i really need some help ...

March 2006 i turned 19 --- i was getting social security checks because my father passed away when i was 14 ... so i was getting checks for that until the age of 18. So last year in 2006 i got a total of 3 checks - totalling about 1500. Also in 2006 i worked and made about 2600. I now want to file my taxes but i have not recieved anything from the state about the 3 checks i got for before i turned 19. Should i wait to file until that statement comes ? Is it ILLEGAL to file without mentioning those 3 checks?

"You were not set up as a 1099 employee with us. we claim your invoices as an expense to us, but if you want to be a 1099 you should fill out a W9 form with us."

This was the email I received from the company. Does anyone know how or if I have to claim this on my 2006 taxes? Thank you for any and all help!

Yes ebfore you start fussing at me, I already went to HR Bloclk and did this myself I just want to see if its correct or if I missed something. I made only about 2600 last year and they withheld about 250 bucks give or take. I have one dependent and am filing single. I know I get 1000 for my child tax credit and I went to the IRS website and tried to figure up my EIC which was around 800 bucks. HRBLOCK gave me a refund of around 1300 but I don't think that includes EIC, correct? So, not including fees from whichever company I file with, I am firguring about 2000 for my refund. Is that about right or comepletely off?

I just graduated from Massage School and have spent nearly $1500 in supplies and equipment (start up costs) in 2006. I passed my national exam the 6th of January and am still waiting for my actual license. My question is - can I file schedule C in 2006 or do I lose all of the start up expenses that I have already spent?

Most jobs require a drug test before employment and lots of other jobs require random drug tests in order to continue your employment and get a pay check. We pay taxes and the government distributes the taxes as they see fit. Shouldn't someone wanting/needing welfare be required to pass a drug test since the taxpayers have to pass one in order to be gainfully employeed and contribute to the person receiving the welfare check?
